Badiucao, often known as the Chinese Banksy, has established himself on the international stage thanks to social media, with which he spreads his art all over the world – his twitter account @badiucao is followed by more than 80 thousand people -, and constantly challenges the Chinese government and censorship. His artistic-political vocation was born in 2007, when, as a law student at Shanghai University.
The artist develops a firm decision to speak out on the front line against any form of ideological and moral control exercised by political power, in favor of the transmission of a non-plagiarized historical memory. His political commitment is realized, in fact, in the creation of participatory campaigns, billboards in public places, illustrations and online activities, often built with a visual language that ironically evokes the pop spirit of communist propaganda, tracing its graphic style, colors and tones.
Thanks to his blog, social media and organized communication campaigns, Badiucao from Australia has carried on his resistance activity, becoming the only channel not filtered by government control capable of broadcasting the stories of the citizens of Wuhan during the lockdown of the 2020.
The artwork I want analise is “how China controls coronavirus”, thar is a comic book that explains how the Badiucao government controls the current pandemy , then they don’t realize information of the progress of the pandemy. At the bottom of this artwork the artist put the inscription: “Silence is Health” that indicates that the government has decided that the only decision made by China to fight against Covid-19 is the silence and the exclusion.
I think that Badiucao’s battle is very important for Chinese people; defeating all forms of censorship is the first step t obtain human right. I really like Badiucao Artstyle and I like his force of will and the perseverance of this artist.
